The Lagos State Commisioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh stated that the command has enforced security deployments across schools, worship centres and other public places to prevent security breaches.
Jimoh disclosed this on Monday at the command headquarters in Ikeja while addressing the newsmen.
He assured that efforts were ongoing and that residents should remain assured of their safety, adding that the new development would be effective and carried out throughout the month leading into the New Year.
“We want the general public to know that Lagos is safe and secure. We have made additional deployments to all schools, places of worship, religious centres and other locations frequently visited by people to ensure all worshippers are safe. This will continue into the New Year and beyond to ensure the safety of all Lagosians and other Nigerians coming into the state,” the CP said.
The security development comes amidst as a result of the recent abductions recorded in states such as Kwara, Kebbi and Niger.
During the briefing, the CP paraded 10 exotic vehicles, He also disclosed that newly hired drivers and car wash attendants have been linked to stolen vehicles in the state. He said the police command had recovered the 10 exotic vehicles and arrested 56 suspects for offences ranging from robbery to car theft.
He, however, urged residents to implement stricter measures inorder to avoid their vehicles being stolen.
“We should be more security conscious, ensuring that we don’t leave car keys to a car wash attendants, he added.
Recovered items included a Toyota Hilux, Range Rover SUV, a black Land Cruiser, a silver Lexus GX460 and several other vehicles, as well as a motorcycle reportedly used in a robbery attempt.
Jimoh further displayed weapons seized from suspects, including locally made pistols, a cut-to-size single-barrel shotgun, cartridges and a machete. He said the recoveries were the outcome of recent operations across the state.
“Each of these vehicles has two or three suspects attached to it, he said.
Jimoh further reassured residents of heightened security across public institutions and areas with congested human traffic.
